Rocket Grenades Attack Commercial Vessel Off Yemen’s Coast
Initial information from UKMTO indicated it had received several third-party accounts of the incident occurring roughly 51 nautical miles west of Hodeidah.
Later updates from UKMTO revealed that the vessel’s company security officer confirmed the ship was hit by five rocket-propelled grenades and was currently being approached by several small craft.
This recent assault took place just hours after news broke that another commercial vessel, MAGIC SEAS, had been completely sunk following an attack by Houthi forces on Sunday.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea stated in a Monday broadcast on Houthi-controlled media that the strike on MAGIC SEAS was a retaliation against the shipowner’s "repeated violations" of the Houthi-imposed ban on docking at Israeli ports.
The Houthis, who dominate much of northern Yemen, have escalated attacks against Israel since November 2023, expressing solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
