Starmer Urges Prince Andrew to Cooperate with US Congress
While returning from Japan, Starmer told reporters that anyone possessing pertinent information ought to be willing to share it “in whatever form they are asked to do that," a news agency reported.
“You can’t be victim-centred if you’re not prepared to do that,” he emphasized. “Epstein’s victims have to be the first priority.”
When questioned about whether Andrew should offer an apology, Starmer responded that the decision was “for Andrew” to make. The prime minister also mentioned that he had used similar phrasing back in November.
Andrew, the younger sibling of King Charles III, has consistently denied any misconduct connected to Epstein, who died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking allegations.
Recent unsealed US Justice Department documents have reignited scrutiny of Andrew, including photographs reported by a news outlet that seemingly depict him in close physical proximity to an unidentified woman.
Separate records cited by a media outlet suggest that Epstein maintained contact with Andrew after his 2008 conviction, with mentions of potential private meetings in London in 2010. However, it remains uncertain whether any such meeting actually occurred.
In 2022, Andrew was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages and stepped back from public engagements amid growing controversy over his association with Epstein.
